  • Just like on a garage door, your gate has safety sensors that alert it to its surroundings. If they are misaligned or something is blocking one, your gate may not function properly.

To align, simply adjust the screws holding it in place until the lights on both sensors stay a solid color.

  • Not all gates have them, but if yours does and is not closing, check to see if the fire department key switch is switched on to allow emergency access. If so, that’s likely why your gate is stuck open, and we are unfortunately unable to help you resolve the issue. Only the fire department has the key that can switch it back, so you need to reach out to them.

  • If you have a hold code for your gate, try entering it before giving us a call. We don’t want to charge your for a fix as simple as entering your own code!

AUTOMATIC GATE SAFETY STANDARDS

UL Solutions, a third-party testing laboratories company, creates product recommendations to promote public safety. UL 325 along with ASTM R2200, recommendations from another independent testing company, form the blueprint for automatic gate system safety recommendations.

Those standards were created to protect you as a consumer, and manufacturer recommendations for any new automatic gate operator follow to them. Adhering to UL 325 & ASTM R2200 recommendations not only makes your automatic gate system more safe, it reduces your liability as a property owner if injury or damage were to occur.

R&S Concord will strongly recommend different options to ensure your gate system is safe and adhering to industry safety standards.

  • Requirements differ for different classes of gate classes (from single family residential to guarded industrial) and intended movement (sliding versus swing), but generally protection criteria includes:

    • Inherent entrapment protection system that stops and reverses the gate within 2 seconds.

    • A non-contact photoelectric sensor or the equivalent that stops or reverses the gate within 2 seconds.

    • A contact sensor (edge device or the equivalent) that stops and reverses the gate within 2 seconds.

    • A pressure sensing device that, upon sensing an obstruction in any direction, will stop or reverse the gate.

    • An audio alarm.

    • Operator approved to current UL 325 standards

    • Warning signs attached to both sides of gate area

    • smooth bottom edges, no protrusions exceed .5" beyond base of gate.

    • access controls are at least 6' from gate

    • support hardware present to prevent gate from falling over if disconnected

    • For swing gates, distance from pivot point to column edge less than 4".

    • For swing gates, the distance from open gate to wall or column greater than 16" unless external entrapment protection present.

    • For slide gates, roller covers on wheels

    • For slide gates, meshing installed up to 6' above grade if pickets are spaced 2.25" or more

    • For slide gates, positive stops at both fully open and closed positions

    • For slide gates, receiver recessed behind receiver post for guides less than 8'
