Garage Door Troubleshooting
It could be anything from a bad roller to a broken spring, but you may actually be able to fix your garage door yourself. Check out our tips to fix common garage door issues below to see if that helps.
Please note we don’t recommend doing anything other than minor maintenance to your garage door as the tension system can be dangerous for DIYers. Garage doors are heavy and cumbersome. Never tackle a DIY garage door repair unless you are 100% confident you can do the job.

Try: Changing the battery & checking the lock or vacation features.
The lock feature on your wall button might have accidentally been engaged, causing the door not to close, or the vacation feature might be preventing your door from opening. Check your manual to see how to deactivate those features for your specific model. If that does not help, you may need to re-program your remote or it could be a problem with the motor.

Try: Adding lubrication.
That sound might not necessarily be a screech of death. It's likely a sign the garage door track requires lubrication and the door may need an adjustment.
Use silicone spray to lubricate all of the door’s hinges, rollers and bearings. Worn, steel ball bearing rollers or plastic rollers might be the culprits. In that case, replacing them with nylon rollers would be the best solution, which we can handle for you.

Try: Clearing area around door and aligning the sensors.
Oops! Looks like someone or something is blocking or knocked the laser safety sensors out of alignment. Typically located at the base of each side of the track, these sensors have to be aligned to communicate for your garage door to close automatically.
If a sensor is blinking or there is no light showing on the sensors, it is most likely out of alignment. Refer to your manual on how to realign your safety sensors. Generally you can loosen or tighten the adjustment screws on one or both until the lights on them stay solid.
