SOLAR PANELS?
We are often asked about using solar panels to power automatic gate systems. Good news: it is possible! Certain gate operators do work well with solar panels. Solar panels are not as reliable as hard-wired electricity, but work well for applications where wired electrical isn’t possible, often due to distance from a structure. We can help you decide if a solar powered gate operator is the best option for your automatic gate system, but here are a few things to keep in mind as you consider:
-
Obviously, solar panels are not an option in places that do not receive direct sunlight for most of the day, or the gate may not have enough power to open.
-
The location of the solar panels depends on a variety of factors, including the type of gate, the direction of sunlight, obstructions surrounding the gate, etc.
-
High cycle applications, such as parking garages or apartment complexes, are often not suited for solar power as the frequent use requires more power than panels can reliably provide.
