READERS & KEY FOBS

Readers and key fobs are staples of access control due to their ease of use and and wide range of applications in both residential and commercial settings.

WHAT TO CONSIDER?

PROXIMITY READERS

Proximity readers are versatile. You’ll find them in large corporate businesses and single family residences.

They can be mounted to read windshield tags on cars in order to grant them entry, or they can be secured beside a door to scan key fobs for entrance.

The main consideration for proximity readers is accessibility to what needs to be scanned. For example, proximity readers for cars need to have the correct distance and alignment between the reader and a windshield tag to scan correctly. So in some applications where the correct alignment can’t be made, another option is preferrable.

KEY FOBS

The differences in different types of key fobs are minimal, so your biggest consideration is whether they are the best fit at all.

Key fobs don’t require anyone to remember a code, but you do incur the physical costs of purchasing new ones and replacing those that have been lost.

You will also likely need someone to help you add the keycards into your system if you are not familiar with the user interface.
