Garage Door Troubleshooting

  • Try: Removing the lock feature.

The lock feature on your wall button was accidentally engaged. Press it and hold it down for three, full seconds and see if that does the trick. If not, you may need to re-program your remote. Instructions for how to do that can be found in your manual.

  • Try: Reprograming your remote.

Whenever a new garage door is installed, there’s a chance a neighbor’s garage door opener shares the same frequency. This can also happen whenever you replace a remote control or key fob. All you have to do is reprogram the remotes, and that should do the trick. Then walk outside and test them while keeping an eye out up and down the street to make sure you have a unique combination engaged. Consult your user manual for how to reprogram your specific operator.

  • Try: Reattaching the door.

This often means the garage door is disengaged from the operator. Can manually lift the door? If so, it’s disengaged. To re-engage it, simply use the red emergency release cord, suspended from the track and move the door up halfway. Then, hit the wall button and the door should reattach itself. If it doesn’t re-engage, or that doesn’t seem to be the problem, refer to the owner’s manual. You may have a stripped gear or carriage, in which case we can help.

  • Try: Adding lubrication.

Yes, it sounds awful, but that's not necessarily its screech of death. The sound is likely a sign the garage door track requires lubrication and potentially an adjustment if the door hasn’t been serviced in a while. Use silicone spray to lubricate all of the door’s moving parts. If your door is older, the worn, steel ball bearing rollers might be the culprits. In that case, replacing them with nylon-coated rollers would likely be the solution, which we can handle for you.

  • Try: Clearing area around door and aligning the sensors.

Oops! Sounds like someone or something is blocking or knocked the laser safety sensors out of whack. Typically located at the base of each side of the track, these sensors have to be aligned to communicate.
